TECHNOLOGY (d8)
The technical level of Runeterra varies widely depending on the region and the faction in question. Some areas, such as the city-state of Piltover, are known for their advanced technology and innovation. Piltover is home to many brilliant inventors and scientists who have created a variety of remarkable devices, ranging from Hextech-powered weaponry to advanced medical equipment and communication devices.
Other regions, such as Demacia or Ionia, are more focused on traditional methods and ways of life, with less emphasis on technological innovation. However, even these regions are not completely devoid of technology, with tools and devices available to aid in everyday tasks.
Overall, the technical level of Runeterra can be described as a mix of traditional methods and cutting-edge technology, with a wide range of variations depending on the region and faction in question. While some areas are more advanced than others, the potential for further innovation and discovery is always present, and the use and development of technology remains a key factor in the shaping of Runeterra's future.
CHEMTECH
Chemtech is often used in the creation of powerful weapons and tools, ranging from corrosive acids to powerful explosives. It can also be used in medical applications, such as the creation of healing elixirs or drugs that enhance physical or mental abilities.
However, Chemtech is not without its dangers. The chemicals used in its creation can be volatile and toxic, and improper handling can lead to catastrophic accidents. In addition, the widespread use of Chemtech in Zaun has led to widespread pollution and environmental degradation, causing significant health problems for the city's inhabitants.
HEXTECH
Hextech devices are powered by hex crystals, which are imbued with magical energy that can be harnessed for a variety of purposes. These devices range from handheld weapons to large-scale machines, and can be used for a wide range of applications, including transportation, communication, and warfare.
Despite its many benefits, Hextech is not without its drawbacks. The creation and handling of hex crystals can be dangerous, and improper use can lead to catastrophic accidents or environmental damage. In addition, the widespread use of Hextech has led to tensions between Piltover and its neighbor, Zaun, with Zaun often accusing Piltover of exploiting Hextech technology for their own gain.
AUGMENTS
Chemtech and Hextech Augments (magical prosthetics) are common in Piltover & Zaun due to the dangers of technology, other similar prosthetics also exist in many forms, like animated wood, spiritual limbs, pirate hooks, and so forth.
Actions using Augments in general use the Tech Dice (d8) for Effort. Additionally Augments make actions outside of Combat “not hard”, however they do have a tendency to malfunction at times. Whenever an attempt using an Augment fails rolling a Natural 1, it becomes temporarily jammed, requiring the owner, or someone competent at the appropriate tech to spend a turn unjamming the augment back to normal.
One risk of augments however is that any character with more than 3 augments becomes a Golem, losing any previous Species benefits and suffering a -1 to Wisdom and Charisma.
VEHICLES & MOUNTS
VEHICLES inflict double damage against those on foot. Pedestrians do HALF damage against VEHICLES. Attacking a hextech suit with your trusty pistol? Not a good idea.
During the action, if a CHUNK is reduced to ZERO HP, it is destroyed! Remove the ability or weapon associated with that CHUNK. Use a roll to choose what CHUNK, unless the attacker is aiming at a specific CHUNK. If a destroyed CHUNK is fired upon, roll again. Another fun narrative element is having that CHUNK go flying as a hazard, or landing in the field and becoming an obstacle or source of fire.
VEHICLE EXAMPLES
All vehicles fall into two categories of speed: Slow, Fast. Slow and Fast engines use 1 CHUNK.
- AIRSHIP: 4 CHUNKS: …
- SKATE BOARD: 1 CHUNKS (5 HP EACH): Engine (Fast), Levitate.
- Move twice on your TURN, even when taking an action or making an attack.
- SUMP SUIT: 2 CHUNKS (5 HP EACH): Life support systems, Haul Crane (Grapple other vehicles), WALKING STILTS (can walk FAR as if NEAR)
- BIKE: 2 CHUNKS: Engine (Fast), Fairing (Ram for Weapon Damage)
MAGIC (d10)
Magic is an integral part of the world of Runeterra, with many individuals possessing the ability to harness and wield its power.
There are many different types of magic in Runeterra, ranging from elemental magic like fire and ice, to more specialized types of magic like blood magic or time magic. Magic is often used in combat, with mages able to cast spells and conjure powerful elemental attacks. It is also used in more practical applications, such as the creation of magical wards or the enchantment of items with powerful properties.
Despite its power and versatility, magic is not without its risks and drawbacks. Improper use of magic can lead to disastrous consequences, such as the corruption of the user or the unleashing of powerful magical forces beyond their control. In addition, the use of magic is often regulated and controlled by powerful factions, with unauthorized use often met with harsh punishment.
ELEMENTAL
Elemental Magic, unlike other forms of magic is a gift or curse one is born with.
Elemental magic is a type of magic in Runeterra that is associated with the manipulation and control of natural elements, such as fire, water, earth, and air. Elemental mages are able to harness the power of these elements to conjure powerful spells and attacks, such as creating a wall of fire, summoning a torrent of water, or causing the ground to shake.
SPIRITUAL
Spiritual Magic can be unlocked through a life of dedication to the spirits.
Spiritual magic can take many different forms, depending on the specific beliefs and practices of the user. For example, in the region of Targon, spiritual magic is associated with the worship of celestial beings known as the Aspect, who are invoked through ritual prayer and meditation. In contrast, in the Shadow Isles, spiritual magic is associated with the control and manipulation of spirits and ghosts, often through dark and dangerous practices.
BLOOD MAGIC
Blood magic is acquired through magical vows and alteration of the mage through rituals.
Blood magic is often associated with dark and dangerous practices, and is often considered taboo or forbidden by many factions in Runeterra. Blood magic can be used for a variety of purposes, such as summoning powerful demons or spirits, creating powerful wards or protective spells, or even achieving immortality or enhanced physical abilities.
SHADOW MAGIC
Shadow magic can be earned through pacts with demons and other spirits of the shadows
the key features of shadow magic is its ability to create illusions and manipulate perception. Shadow mages can use their powers to create realistic illusions, making objects or people appear different than they actually are. They can also use their powers to manipulate reality, creating pockets of darkness or shadows to hide in, or even to transport themselves to other locations.
