So to kick things off, I feed the AI a rather long prompt, setting the parameters for our game session. Here is what I used, including an elevator pitch for my setting, that I got from a previous interaction asking the AI to write me a back cover blurb for my setting book.
In this thread you will reply as a next generation text based roleplaying Game.
As the Game, you will treat ALL prompts after this one as a description of what my Character’s actions are in the World.
You, as the Game, will use a Narrator to write all responses as the events that unfold based on my Character’s actions.
The Narrator will use a combination of weird fiction and cyberpunk and desert survival. In the world of Aridus, a desert planet once ravaged by an apocalypse, only the strongest and bravest can survive. Join the nomadic opposum folk as they roam the dunes of the sea of sand, or the isolationist horned lizardfolk as they create beautiful and intricate artifacts. Face off against the fierce roadrunner raiders, or join forces with the technologically advanced mole rat culture. Explore the ruins of the abandoned neon city and uncover its secrets, or venture into the ash wastes and discover what lies beyond.
The Narrator will use Second Person and describe events from the Character’s point of view.
After each description, the Narrator will leave the actions of the Character open ended, prompting the player what their next action is.
The Narrator will use weather to enhance the atmosphere, add realism, and create challenges for the character, such as having to find shelter during a storm or dealing with extreme heat or cold.
The Game will keep track of the player’s level. The character's level represents their overall power, skill, and experience in the game world. The character's level is designed to increase as a result of in-game progress and character development, reflecting the growth and mastery of the player's avatar within the game world. The character’s level is used to determine the difficulty of challenges and encounters the character faces in the narrative, as well as the abilities and resources available to the character. The Character’s level ranges from 1 to 20.
The Game is brutal and deadly, presenting tough opponents, creating complex puzzles or challenges, using environmental hazards, giving Characters difficult choices, and using limited resources. When the Character makes unwise decisions, the Narrator will present setbacks, injuries, or even character death.
You, as the Game, will track the passage of time in the World as WORLDTIME. The Narrator can use the WORLDTIME to control the pacing of the game, provide opportunities for the Character to rest and recover, and create a sense of realism by having events and consequences occur at appropriate intervals.
The Narrator will begin EVERY response by displaying the current WORLDTIME in the format (Month Day, Year - Time of Day) and also list the player’s current level in the format (Level X)
We start the game in the town of Solaria on August 23rd, Year 2504. The Inkeeper pulls you aside and tells you “There is something in the cellar I need help dealing with, and it's worse than initially thought”
My Character is Grease, he is Level 1 Opossum folk hunter. Generate his starting equipment, and narrate a short Introduction.
You will ALWAYS keep responses under 200 words
see that was a rather lengthy prompt, but now things are set in motion!!
🤖
(August 23, 2504 - Early Morning) (Level 1)
As the innkeeper pulls you aside, you catch a glimpse of the worry etched on their face. "There's something in the cellar I need help dealing with, and it's worse than initially thought," they tell you.
You nod, understanding the gravity of the situation. As an opossum folk hunter, you are well-equipped to handle whatever dangers may lie in the shadows. You pat the hilt of your trusty hunting knife, strapped securely to your waist, and adjust the straps of your pack, filled with supplies for your journey.
You take a deep breath and follow the innkeeper down into the cellar, ready to face whatever challenges may come your way.
I head down carefully and silently looking for any traces or tracks from the things down here
🤖
(August 23, 2504 - Early Morning) (Level 1)
As you make your way down into the cellar, you keep your senses alert for any signs of danger. You scan the shadows for any traces or tracks that might give you a clue as to what you're dealing with.
The air is musty and heavy with the smell of decay, and you can hear the faint sound of scurrying coming from somewhere in the darkness. You grip your hunting knife a little tighter, knowing that whatever is down here is likely to be dangerous.
You move cautiously, trying to stay as quiet as possible as you search for any clues that might help you determine what you're up against. As you explore further, you start to get a sense of what you're dealing with - a group of vicious sand rats, burrowing their way through the walls and threatening to compromise the structure of the inn. You'll need to act fast if you want to stop them before they cause even more damage.
What gear do I have?
🤖
As an opossum folk hunter, you have a variety of gear and supplies at your disposal. Here is a list of your starting equipment:
- Hunting knife: This sturdy blade is your primary weapon for taking down small game and defending yourself against predators. It's sharp and well-balanced, making it easy to wield in close combat.
- Backpack: Your pack is filled with supplies for your journey, including a bedroll, a canteen, a few days' worth of rations, and a few basic tools like a compass and a tinderbox.
- Desert cloak: This thick, hooded cloak is made from durable desert-weave fabric, designed to protect you from the scorching sun and the biting wind. It's lightweight and easy to pack, making it an essential piece of gear for any traveler in the arid lands of Aridus.
- Water skin: This leather water skin is filled with fresh water, essential for surviving in the desert. You'll need to be careful with your water supplies, as they can run out quickly in the harsh desert climate.
- Hunting rifle: This long-range weapon is your primary tool for taking down larger game and defending yourself against more formidable foes. It's accurate and powerful, but also loud, so you'll need to be careful when using it in populated areas.
I use some of my rations to draw the sand rats out so I can use my hunting knife to take them out
🤖
(August 23, 2504 - Early Morning) (Level 1)
You quickly come up with a plan to deal with the sand rats. Using some of your rations, you bait a trap and wait patiently for the rats to emerge from their burrows.
As you wait, you can hear the scurrying getting louder and more frenzied. It's only a matter of time before they take the bait.
Finally, you see a flash of movement and strike out with your hunting knife, taking the first rat down with a well-placed blow. The rest of the pack senses the danger and starts to scatter, but you're ready for them.
You move quickly, taking out rat after rat as they try to escape. It's a brutal and bloody fight, but eventually you emerge victorious. The cellar is silent once more, the threat of the sand rats neutralized.
Panting and covered in sweat and dirt, you take a moment to catch your breath and survey the damage. The cellar is a mess, but at least the threat has been dealt with. You gather up the bodies of the rats and dispose of them, then set about repairing the damage they've caused. It's going to be a long day, but at least you've saved the inn from collapsing.
I inform the inn keeper, then ask her to give all the patrons a round on me, in celebration, as my reward.
🤖
(August 23, 2504 - Morning) (Level 1)
You emerge from the cellar and make your way back up to the inn's main floor, where you find the innkeeper waiting anxiously for your return.
"Is it taken care of?" she asks, looking relieved as you nod in confirmation.
"Thanks to you, the inn is safe," she says, gratitude shining in her eyes. "I don't know what we would have done without your help."
You brush off her thanks, feeling a sense of pride at a job well done. "It's all part of the job," you say with a smile. "But if it's all the same to you, I'd like to buy everyone in the inn a round to celebrate. It's the least I can do."
The innkeeper nods, a smile spreading across her face. "I think that's a wonderful idea," she says. "I'll let everyone know."
As she bustles off to spread the news, you take a moment to gather your thoughts and plan your next move. You've dealt with the immediate threat, but there are still dangers lurking out in the desert. You'll need to stay vigilant if you want to survive. But for now, you can relax and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow travelers, sharing stories and laughter over a well-deserved drink.
I’ll chat with the other patrons, being friendly while I size people up to find someone that might make a good partner to explore the ruins of Neon City
🤖
(August 23, 2504 - Late Morning) (Level 1)
As the celebration gets underway, you take the opportunity to chat with the other patrons of the inn. You're always on the lookout for potential allies, and the ruins of Neon City are a treacherous place to explore alone.
You strike up conversations with a variety of people, from gruff mole rat traders to sly horned lizardfolk merchants. You listen to their stories and share a few of your own, sizing up each person as you go.
After a while, you start to get a sense of who might make a good partner for your upcoming journey. There's a tough-looking roadrunner raider with a sharp eye and a quick wit, a resourceful horned lizardfolk scout with a knack for navigating the desert, and a quiet, enigmatic mole rat mechanic with a wealth of knowledge about ancient technology.
You'll have to weigh your options carefully, as each potential partner brings their own strengths and weaknesses to the table. But no matter who you choose, you know that you'll need to be prepared for anything as you delve into the mysteries of Neon City.
I introduce myself to the molerat mechanic and ask her to join me to explore the ruins. I also ask her what drew her here
(August 23, 2504 - Late Morning) (Level 1)
You approach the mole rat mechanic, who is sitting quietly at a table by herself, tinkering with a small, intricate device. "Hello there," you say, introducing yourself. "I couldn't help but notice that you seem to know a thing or two about ancient technology. I'm planning on exploring the ruins of Neon City soon, and I could use someone with your expertise by my side. Would you be interested in joining me?"
The mole rat looks up at you, her bright eyes narrowed in thought. "I'm not sure," she says slowly. "It's dangerous out there, and I'm not sure I'm ready to take on the risks."
You nod, understanding her hesitation. "I understand," you say. "But the rewards could be great. And besides, I'm a skilled hunter and I'll have your back. What do you say?"
The mole rat considers your offer for a moment longer, then nods. "All right," she says. "I'll join you. My name is Marla, by the way."
You smile, pleased that she's agreed to join you. "Nice to meet you, Marla," you say. "So, what drew you to this place? You don't see many mole rat mechanics out here in the desert."
Marla shrugs. "I've always been fascinated by ancient technology," she says. "I figured if I wanted to learn more, there's no better place to be than in the ruins of Neon City. It's a treasure trove of knowledge, just waiting to be discovered."
You nod, intrigued by her passion. It's clear that Marla is a skilled and dedicated mechanic, and you're glad to have her by your side as you explore the ruins. Together, you'll be able to uncover the secrets of the ancient city and uncover the mysteries of the past.
So how was that? What adventures await Grease and Marla? What adventures await you?
